In 2002, the company Debi Geroux worked for was acquired and her department was downsized. Although she survived the downsizing, Debi realized she wanted to eventually work closer to home and perhaps be her own boss. She researched online commerce and tossed around a few product ideas, selecting a product line of fiber arts and craft supplies when she had a difficult time finding the “perfect pattern” for a gift she wanted to make.
Debi launched PurpleKittyYarns.com in January 2003 as an online retail store. The retail store has since closed, but she reorganized the business and changed the format to a free craft pattern site. She also started up two additional sites to focus on vintage crochet patterns (FreeVintageCrochet.com) and vintage knitting patterns (FreeVintageKnitting.com).
Debi now enjoys spending her time reproducing her extensive library of vintage crochet and knitting patterns, many of them sent to her by loyal users of the websites, and sharing them with others! She communicates with her website users via her newsletters and Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/purplekittyllc).
