In the early days entertainers traveled via the Oswego Canal to perform big city shows in our communities. Our residents and visitors have access to exciting arts and cultural opportunities. We are able to take advantage of art galleries, dance and music performances, theater, museums, festivals and much more.
Our many quality festivals provide a wide range of art, dancing, music, theater, cultural diversity and more throughout the year. Many of the activities are possible because of the strong community ties that exist between residents and institutions. The area boasts several large theaters that host dance troupes, traveling and local music programs, world renowned speakers and local, regional and national theater companies and more.
Festivals are always an attraction. There are many to choose from; The Independence Celebration, Harborfest, Canal Heritage Day, Bird Fest, Fishing Derbies, Taste of Oswego and Pumpkin Fest just to name a few. Our visitors and residents can take time to visit the Farmers' Market and enjoy the fresh, homegrown products produced by local farmers as well as local crafts and products.
The historic Oswego Public Library has completed a comprehensive rehabilitation and expansion project to enhance the wide-ranging library services. Additionally, we have a number of additional libraries in the area that include public, college and school based sites. Local libraries also offer special programs that aid in public discourse and information.
The pride Oswego County residents have for their communities is found most evident in its ongoing support of arts and culture in the area. There is something for everyone; music theater, dance, art galleries, museums and much, much more.
